The Rules: Put your mp3 player on shuffle and write down the firstline of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results.
The first line of the twenty-first is the title!
Pushing Through The Market Square
Birds fall from the window ledge above mine
Nightlong vigil by the picture window
Cold and misty morning, I heard a warning borne in the air
Birds fly into my windshield
You're gonna lose that girl
I'm lookin' for a hard-headed woman
Make a hole with a gun perpendicular
I took my boat for a car
Boy you gonna carry that weight
Be a string to my guitar, water
Sweet as the smell of success
Where was I? I forgot the point that I was making
Lady Madonna, children at your feet
She scratches a letter into a wall made of stone
We are the guests of Mr. Smalls
I got something to say to you and you've got less than two minutes to hear it

CALLER: Um, yes, please.
ME: That number is 248 - 1790.
CALLER: [ beep beep boop, beep boop boop boop ]
ME: You'll have to hang up your phone first.
CALLER: Oh.

It was just about as sweet as a sweet potato

Well guess what. Solid Oswald, the band that is equal parts me and
moult, spent the last few months making an EP of sorts, and now we are emotionally ready for you to listen to it. Constitutional Lozenge is four pop songs of varying levels of eccentricity and unwaveringly high quality. You'll want to go download and listen to it for free here!
Oh, also: there is an alternate album cover on the UK version. Pretty cool!

This is an explanatory note that all of the entries on this journal have been made private (except for three posts from 2006 which I haven't been able to edit and I don't know why). I'm going to be starting a new blog pretty soon, one that will have less of an emphasis on personal stuff and more of an emphasis on things I do (arts and musics).

I'm a little bit worried about Iran. I think people find it difficult to believe we'll start another war. But look at everything Bush has fucked up in his administration. Iran could be the ultimate fuck-up for him. The pice de rsistance. If I know anything about our president, he'll go for it. People forget that he just starts wars the way most people start cars.
In fact, it's probably already a done deal. Going from the Iraq model, they've probably already met clandestinely with Tony Blair's government, they've probably already established an invasion strategy, they've probably already awarded reconstruction contracts to Halliburton, they've probably even printed up a big banner that says "MISSION: ACCOMPLISHED" to hang over the crater that once was downtown Tehran. Just drum up some talk of an invasion 'round about August (the media have been getting an early start on this), and then hold a Congressional vote to authorize the invasion right before the midterm elections, and BOOM: Operation Iranian Liberation. Bush gets his final lolly. I'm only slightly trying to be funny.

"Please - a little less love, and a little more common decency."
Feb. 14th, 2006 | 01:45 pm
music: György Ligeti - Concert românesc - I Andantino
If you're looking for the perfect gift for your Valentine, or if you're in the mood for some common decency, perhaps you should consider making a purchase of some King Toad albums. Jamal's birthday is today, and he's unfortunately not too well, so we can all help him pay for prescriptions and support a guy who makes some of my favorite music ever to boot. Here's the official Inter-Net web site: http://www.angelfire.com/ia/kingtoa d/
I'm being surprisingly non-whiny for a Valentine's Day. It's because it's nice out and I'm generally having a pretty good day.

TV commercial vs. commercial TV
Jan. 31st, 2006 | 11:23 pm
music: Franz Liszt - Trois études de concert, No. 3, Un sospiro
I find the medium of the television commercial interesting. Don't get me wrong; I hate watching commercials as much as the next guy, I hate how they're now up to a 1:2 airplay ratio to the TV shows they accompany (10 minutes of commercials in a half-hour program), I hate how they're always just a little bit louder than the show so you can hear them while you're fixing a sandwich in the kitchen.
